We have internship and freelance opportunities all year for applicants interested in foreign policy, international relations, conflict resolution, diplomacy, and international negotiations. Interns will have the chance to contribute directly to the Web site, the blog, and the print version of the magazine, while building important publishing points for their resume in the process.

Positions are available primarily in Washington, DC, but also in other locations worldwide. Both part-time and full-time positions are available. Interns and fellows are eligible for academic credit.

Editorial Interns

Looking for a place to have your own voice heard? At The Diplomatic Courier we have multiple internship opportunities for students interested in foreign policy, international relations, conflict resolution, diplomacy, and international negotiations.

The interns work directly with the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team of The Diplomatic Courier to update the blog; research materials for the resources section of the website; update the content of the website; to assist with other writing and editing tasks involving the print version of the publication. Interns also have abundant opportunities to attend meetings, events, and press conferences with the Editor-in-Chief.

Eligibility:

  • Must be at least a college junior in good standing, advanced, or graduate student.
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution.
  • Must be independent, self-driven, and able to multi-task.
  • Must demonstrate interest and knowledge of the subject matters covered in the magazine.
  • Must demonstrate superior research skills.

  • Fall semester: July 30
  • Winter- Spring semester: November 30
  • Summer semester: March 30

Marketing Intern

At The Diplomatic Courier we need someone who wants to learn how to market and is ready for hands-on experience. You will work on building databases, mailers, e-blasts and other marketing tools. The successful candidate must be internet savvy and able to help support our sales force. Marketing interns should have good organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to research, analyze, and utilize market data.

We offer a flexible working environment. Hours are flexible, but you must be able to commit to 15-20 hours per week during workday hours. This position is a non-paid position but you have the opportunity to earn commission as well as academic credit. Ideal candidate is a junior or senior in college who is working towards a business or marketing degree.

Advertising Sales Associate

Compensation: Salary commensurate with salary history and experience

Description: We are seeking candidates to sell space to advertising accounts for both the print and online versions of the publication. As business grows, so does the need for a highly motivated sales associate. This challenging opportunity is for the candidate desiring to improve overall revenue performance of the operation: including the attainment of superior sales results, and effective development of current sales processes.

Qualification: The successful candidate must be able to initiate sales leads and close the deal.

•Must be interested in and have knowledge of international affairs;
•Cold calling skills are a must;
•Excellent inter-personal skills;
•Competitive, proactive, self-motivated, great time manager, excellent listener, speaker, and written communicator;
•Be able to generate business leads through networking and referrals;
•Be well organized and maintain a professional look and attitude;
•Must have at least 2 years of advertising sales experience;
•A college degree is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities:
The core responsibilities of the position include exceeding budgeted advertising revenue; maximizing selling time to prospects and existing customers; identifying prospects with the Editors and Publishers; converting prospects into customers and customers into advocates; and assisting Publishers in developing existing accounts.
